The L'Enfant Trust is a public, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization founded in
1978 to protect and promote the beauty of Washington's streets, or in the language of its charter, to "promote a public aesthetic in land use planning." Named after the planner of the federal city, Pierre L'Enfant, the Trust has pioneered the use of the Conservation Easement - a unique and powerful preservation tool – to protect Washington's historic buildings and neighborhoods. The L'Enfant Trust now provides responsible, community stewardship for more than one thousand Washington D.C. properties protected by its Conservation Easements.
"The L'Enfant Trust, through its
conservation easement program, has played a critical role in protecting
many architectural treasures in our nation's capital, and is a great
contributor to the city's preservation efforts."
- Richard Moe, President,
